How our mindset controls our progress

If you have followed my stuff for any amount of time, then you know how much

I rate mindset when it comes to any sort of fitness and health journey. It is in fact one of my four pillars of body transformation and the very first thing my clients work on at the start of their programs.

But why?

Because most obstacles or barriers that you have ever encountered on your journey could be put down to mindset and be avoided with the correct form of attitudes.

If our mindset is in the wrong place, then our behaviours will reflect that. Our motivation will be low, our energy will be low, and our progress will be poor.

However, if our mindset is in the right place then our behaviours will much more likely lead us towards our goals, our motivation and energy level will be much higher, and our chance of success greatly increased.

More often then not, I see people trying to drastically change the way they look, in order to change the way that they feel. This is great and will certainly have an impact. But there needs to be an element of changing how we feel in order to change the way we look.

By working on the mindset first, we are putting ourselves in a better position to succeed at changing the way we look.

Let me explain how your mindset can impact your results.

Picture a boat out at sea. This boat is your body. Your mindset can be broken down into your conscious (5%) and your subconscious (95%). The conscious is the captain of the boat and the subconscious are the crew below deck. The captain or conscious mind issues orders to the crew or subconscious mind, the same way our thoughts issue orders to our subconscious. The crew or subconscious are completely obedient and follow the orders no matter what.

So, if the captain decides to issue orders to direct the boat into an iceberg, the subconscious will make it happen, sabotaging the entire boat, your body. If however the captain successfully issues orders to direct the boat into port, the crew will make that happen instead, leading the boat to succeed in its journey.

If therefore we continuously take a negative approach towards our own fitness journey, continuously putting ourselves down, telling ourselves that we are overweight, unfit and never going to get into shape, then guess what? The subconscious is going to believe that an order, and your actions are going to reflect that. You will suffer form low motivation, low energy, continuous cravings for junk food. Your goals will never happen.

If however we give ourselves positive, goal driven thoughts, such as creating and reading a vision, giving ourselves affirmations to read, and telling ourselves that we can indeed achieve our goals, then our actions will reflect that instead. We will more likely workout and eat well because our body wants to.

We control our own future by our thoughts. They are powerful stuff. That is why I wake up each morning and read my goals before I start my day. So my mind feels empowered and my body follows in turn.

Imagine your mind like a machine. The conscious mind (thoughts and emotions) goes into the top. Inside, the subconscious sets to work turning those thoughts into commands and then action comes out of the bottom.

Put in the wrong conscious and the wrong actions will come out.

So, my advice to you is the following:

  1. Ensure that you have a vision and goals to aim for. Something that will keep your conscious mind on a target.

  2. Make sure you read these visions and goals daily. As this machine gets more powerful with repetition. If inserted enough, the subconscious will start to believe our thoughts are true already, even if they are not yet.

  3. Keep positive. Easier said then done I know but if something negative happens then do not let it linger. This can sabotage your actions. We have all been there.

Once your mindset is on the right path, I guarantee your body transformation goals will be close behind. If you are struggling with your body transformation, revisit your mindset.
