Take away's from 'mind over muscle' with Ant Middleton
** TAKE AWAY FROM MIND OVER MUSCLE WITH ANT MIDDLETON **
For those who watch S.A.S. who dares wins, you will know of Ant Middleton who is the head instructor on the course.
Recently we went to an event on his ‘mind over muscle’ tour and found some valuable pieces of information in relation to the mindset that can be applied into every aspect of your life, from work to family to fitness.
“No one knows you better than you know yourself”
This was the ongoing message from the 2-hour event. It implies that you should never let a situation, or another person define who you are. You must take ownership of your thoughts, emotions and actions. In the world of fitness, if you skip a gym workout because you had a stressful day and could not be bothered, then you are letting a situation define you. If you get knocked down and insulted and as a result, eat a load of junk to make you feel better, you are letting another person define you.
No one knows you better than you know yourself. Remember that and let nothing else define you. You should be in control of your thoughts, your emotions and your actions.
Your body is your one true home that no one else can control but you. You define yourself.
“I look at everything with a positive mindset”
Very powerful statement that 95% of us could learn from. The ability to draw a positive from a negative is very powerful indeed. If you do not draw positives from negatives then you will let the negative define you, leading you down the wrong path. You will always encounter negatives like you will always encounter stress. How you deal with it is the trick.
Every time you encounter a negative, draw a positive from it. The world is made up of energy which is always in balance. For every positive there must be a negative and visa versa. Dr Joe Dispenza talk about this a lot. Therefore, there will be a positive, you must find it.
A positive mindset leads us down the right paths, gives us more energy, less stress and the ability to deal with any situation.
“Do not be afraid to fail more than once”
I say this to my clients, do worry if you do not succeed, so long as you are learning lessons along the way. Failure is one of the most powerful ways of learning and every successful person in their own right has failed many, many times along the way. I would even go so far to say that you cannot achieve fully what you desire without a few failures.
When we fail, we learn. If you are failing and not learning from it, then that is a mistake. So, considering the last point on positivity; when you fail, see the positive from the situation and learn from it.
Considering the first point about knowing yourself; if you do not learn from your failures then you are letting a situation define you.
“Everything we do, we are involved in teamwork”
We experience teamwork every single day. Not just the obvious stuff like playing a sport or working with colleagues. But everything we do.
Filling your car with fuel? Team work, as someone would have to dig for oil, another has to refine it, another has to transport it, another sells it.
Using a gym? Team work, as someone has built the gym, others work in it to assist you, others have supplied the equipment.
Eating a meal? Team work, as someone has grown the food, another prepared it.
You get the idea.
So why do we consider ourselves so independent? Accept the fact that we are all part of one big team and use that to your advantage. Need help? Ask for it.
You cannot go it alone.
“Be present, forward thinking and do not live in the past”
Much like the first point here, if you are living in the past then you are letting something else define you. What is done is done and we must be present and forward thinking.
Always set yourself new challenges to reach. This will keep you moving forwards and never back. If you fail, learn and go again. Do not dwell.
Sometimes these things are easier said than done, but that is just it. You have to define yourself, be positive, not be afraid to fail, accept teamwork and be present and these things will get easier.
Correct use of the mind will lead you down the path desired.
Incorrect use will lead to constant failure and not forward movement.
The mind and the body work together, as a team. One cannot be improved without the other. We must work on making improvements to both as one will help the other.
The event was truly inspiring, motivating and humorous and I would recommend it to everyone.
I will certainly be applying these to my own life, to my work and to my health. I will also be developing ways of helping my clients apply these to their own
lives to progress their body transformations.
Define yourself.
